Five things everyone is doing wrong when it comes to dental hygiene.

1. Not brushing your teeth before bed.

Dentists have been telling us for years “Make sure you are brushing your teeth twice a day,” but the real key is brushing them before bed. After dinner and that midnight bowl of ice cream, your teeth are at their weakest and prone to cavities and gum disease. If you experience cavities or gum troubles on a regular basis, you should be brushing after dinner and again before bed.

2. Still using a manual toothbrush.

If you are still using a manual toothbrush you are missing out on an extremely clean mouth and feeling that sparkle when you smile. Electric toothbrushes remove plaque more effectively and efficiently than a regular toothbrush. You’ll never go back to a manual toothbrush again.

3. Forgetting to floss.

Now that you are brushing two or even three times a day, if you are not flossing you are still missing out on the benefits. Food particles and plaque build up between your teeth and continue to grow while you are sleeping. When you first start flossing you may experience bleeding or sensitivity. This is normal and your gums will become accustomed to flossing if you continue on a regular basis.

4. Not using mouthwash.

Mouthwash is an important part of your oral health. Using a mouth rinse before bed helps protect against plaque, cavities, and gingivitis. Talk to your dentist about the right mouth wash for your individual oral care.

5. Not seeing your dentist regularly for a cleaning and check-up.

Be proactive when it comes to your dental health. By practicing preventative oral health care you will save money and avoid most dental emergencies. Dental Health Associates is in your area to help you keep your dental hygiene in check.
