Meet Dr. Michael W. McKinney Sr.

A Committed and Compassionate Dentist

in Augusta/Rockingham Counties

Mike McKinney is a native of Johnson City, Tennessee, but has been in the Rockbridge County area since 1998.  Dr. McKinney graduated as a business major from Southern Virginia University where he played football and was student body vice-president.  Prior to attending SVU he served for two years in Ireland as a missionary for his church. After graduating from SVU, Mike was a Boy Scout professional for the State of West Virginia and then a teacher at Rivermont School in Lexington.  Not feeling either of those professions should be his life’s labor; he decided to go back to college and prepare to work in the health care profession.  While working as a volunteer on a Remote Area Medical project to provide medical and dental care to indigent families in Southwest Virginia, Mike was given an opportunity to assist a dentist.  He fell in love with the profession and turned all his efforts towards becoming one who could use his natural mechanical and artistic skills to help others with their dental challenges.  As a result Mike graduated as Dr. Michael McKinney from Roseman University of Health Sciences in Utah.  While at Roseman, Dr. McKinney worked as a volunteer providing dental treatment to the homeless in Salt Lake City.

A country boy at heart, Dr. McKinney enjoys camping, pickup trucks, woodworking, and barbeque.  And, he loves being able to serve the people of the community in which he grew up. Most of all, he loves being with his wife, Janet and their four children: Mikey, Jackson, John, and Mary Cate.
